The following is a quick rundown on some the balloon sculptures that I teach you. This part will give you a big head start by showing you which are the most popular and what to have on your display.
Also pay close attention to how long it takes to make a balloon and when complicated balloons should be avoided. Remember as you go along that none of this requires perfection, I can’t stress that enough. Just get started, speed and skill will come with practice. If you don’t want to get started until your balloons are perfect, you very likely never may.
All instructional videos can be found with their corresponding titles in my YouTube channel. This list
is sorted by balloon popularity and the order in which you should learn them.
Poodle
The poodle and the sword are the best and simplest balloons in your arsenal. I offer these for $2 balloons and you can make the poodle in less than 30 seconds and they are universally loved. With poodles, speed is always more important, so while you are practicing let that be your focus. Even if
your balloons are not perfect, don’t worry, they are perfect to the kids that you give them to. You should always have pre-made poodles on your stand (or around your waist if you are wearing an
apron). This is the first balloon to learn.
Sword
The sword is the classic balloon for boys. There are a few variations but the one we teach you here is the only one worth knowing. This type is faster to make and will not come undone when kids play with it. Swords like poodles often sell so fast that even though they are very quick to make it is good to keep several pre-made swords at your stand at all times. The sword can also be made with a very simple sheath for a fun twist (and an extra donut). This should be your second balloon. Practice: multiple bubbles without locking, fold twist, balloon stretching
Heart
Although some twisters consider the techniques used to make the heart advanced, I have found that learning it right from the start is best. Not only because it’s a great seller, but because this type of shaping can be used in almost every figure and doing so will make your work look much more professional. This is the third balloon to learn.
Practice: balloon creasing, rounding
Flower
So this one may seem a little difficult to learn as your fourth balloon, but it teaches a lot about managing air pressure and knowing when a balloon is going to pop. So it is worth practicing it and
getting it down. Also the flower is one of the prettiest balloons and attracts a lot of attention when
on your display.
